noah's astrolabe

Description

the brief for this piece was simply "noah's ark"
this is my interpretation of the instrument hoah may have used to navigate the earth.
it is based on a spherical astrolabe that i found on display in the history of science museum in oxford.
the ball is free moving inside the cage which can be oppened in order to remove the ball.
the ball can be split in two. the reason behind this is that i was planning on putting a dried, curled olive branch inside to add a little depth but i couldn't get one.
the astrolabe has suffered a little damage over the years, the most notable being the loss of a hinged brass hoop that was attatched to the top from which it may have been hung whilst in use.
